How to Delete Google Reviews — A Guide for Business Owners

When Can Google Delete a Review?
Google only removes reviews that violate their policies. Legitimate negative reviews — even if unfair — usually stay. But there are specific cases where removal is possible.
Valid Reasons for Review Removal
Fake or spam reviews
Reviews from accounts with no activity or from competitors. Flag them and Google may remove them.
Off-topic reviews
Reviews about something unrelated to your business (politics, personal disputes).
Reviews with prohibited content
Reviews containing personal information, hate speech, or illegal content.
Conflict of interest
Reviews from employees, competitors, or business owners reviewing their own business.
How to Flag a Review for Removal
Step 1: Open Google Maps or Search
Find your business and navigate to the reviews section.
Step 2: Flag the review
Click the three-dot menu on the review and select "Flag as inappropriate."
Step 3: Wait for Google's decision
Google typically reviews flagged content within 3-5 business days.
When You Can't Delete a Review
If a negative review is legitimate, you can't remove it. But you can minimize its impact:
- → Respond professionally — show future customers you care
- → Get more positive reviews — dilute the impact of a single negative review
- → Contact the reviewer privately — resolve the issue and they may update their review
